Neutral C, also known as calcium ascorbate and marketed as Ester C, is a buffered form of Vitamin C. Calcium ascorbate is composed of two molecules of Vitamin C bonded to one molecule of calcium. This buffered form of Vitamin C is non-acidic and therefore does not cause acid upset in the stomach or diarrhea. It also replenishes the calcium that is excreted in the urine due to Vitamin C’s chelating properties. Vitamin C is a a factor in the normal development and maintenance of bones, cartilage, teeth and gums. It promotes healthy skin and helps to bolster the immune system to assist in the body's natural healing processes. Vitamin C is also involved in the absorption of iron. In the body it maintains collagen, a protein necessary for the formation of skin, ligaments and bones and acts as an antioxidant that aids in the protection of the body from free radical damage. Vitamin C is probably best known for its effects as an antioxidant and its role in maintaining proper immune function. The addition of rose hips, a natural source of bioflavonoids, to Trophic’s Neutral C formula enhances the absorption of Vitamin C.
